Twitter, freelance writing, my new business, and how it all happened in 10 steps
There they are. My first tweets. This is both how I began at Twitter and how I discovered freelance writing. I hadn’t a notion of it and wrote as a hobby, hoped to have a career, and had written as part of my other businesses. Here is how it happened:
- Holly Lisle, my then writing hero, introduced me to Twitter.
- I had just quit my job to run my resume writing business.
- I was trying to get a refund on the bookkeeping education my former boss (and current jack***) had set up and funded but discovered it would be credited to his card. I instead searched for another program to begin.
- I discovered the Freelance Writer program, and thusly freelance writing.
- I tried to transform my resume writing business into a freelance writing business.
- I twittered like a madwoman.
- I decided to start another writing business.
- I quit resumes and opened up AnHonestWriter.com with my real estate and lifestyle niches of choice.
- I was overwhelmed by the massively bad marketing from Twitter and had begun to focus on relationships.
- Today, I unfollowed everyone. I am a fan of the drastic, sweeping change. I then re-followed all those I regulary have engaging converstations with.
It is amazing to see just how far I’ve come from not knowing what a freelance writer was to deciding to be one to specializing. I have evolved into a better writer and better marketer/networker and understand relationship marketing and social media much more. In the new year, I will build a truly successful freelance writing business! I am so excited today because it is the day my 24 Hour Home & Work Diary will come in the mail. I can hardly wait!!
Thanks George! That’s the honest truth about how it all began. I love reading your tweets as well. You always have something fresh and interesting to share.
I hope I can inspire others. I just build from the ground up, and they can too!
I think you are doing an excellent job. i started with no knowledge at all so to see your start is encouraging to me. I will be watching to see how it goes.
Much Love,
Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your input. Everyone does seem to “evolve” at Twitter.
It never ceases to amaze me what little event can cause a ripple, then some positive reaction which eventually leads to a whole new path. I’m glad to see it is continually working out for you!
