Putting your writer first
I can’t be the only writer that hasn’t been focusing on putting their writer first. Of course, their writer is themselves. Yet, there are so many business aspects we all get caught up in. I remember many times being thankful that I was an entrepreneur first and a writer second, but that really just isn’t all it is cracked up to be.
I am putting my writer role first. If you’ve read the past few posts, you have seen me separate these roles.
I think it may be one of my most important distinctions and actionable decisions for 2009. I have made a great deal of changes, but I have truly found that my first thing to be first is myself as a writer.
- Before my income is focused on, I focus on my writing.
- Before my SEO is honed (if so), I work on the writing.
- Before my other business responsibilities, I focus on my writing.
While I don’t think it is the case for everyone (writing is a potentially lucrative opportunity for many and that is a fine focus) many of us are writers first.
How will you put “your writer” first in 2009?
@Amanda,
I look forward to seeing you spread your wings in 2009 as a creative angel. I am going to be working on a plethora of projects in 2009. Good to hear the personal writing is still a priority!

@George,
I love when you stop by dear! Thanks for retweeting.
I really like that: it is true that the order of the house generates/allows productivity.
Thanks again,

@Jeremy,
Thanks for stopping by. I try to be thoughtful, and in turn give my readers something to think about.

Great post.
I will not cut myself short on pay anymore. No more hard work for little pay!
@farandsavage,
That is great to hear. We are all guilty of that sometimes!
